How to Tell if Your Excavator Engine Mount Needs Replacement

A failing excavator engine mount can typically be identified through a combination of visual inspection and operational symptoms. For the US market where operators run extended duty cycles, regular inspection at 500-hour PM intervals is recommended:

• Visual: Remove the engine guard and inspect rubber for cracks, tears, or oil contamination (oil causes accelerated rubber deterioration)
• Physical: Measure permanent deflection — more than 3 mm permanent set indicates rubber has fatigued and lost its isolation properties
• Operational: Increased cab vibration at idle that wasn't present when the machine was new
• Diagnostic: Vibration severity meter readings above 0.5 m/s² (8-hour EAV threshold) at the operator seat
